Tour match, Northampton (day two, stumps): Northants 269-3d & 140; Pakistan 250-9 d & 24-0Pakistan transformed their three-day match against Northamptonshire with a dramatic bowling performance in the afternoon session of day two.
The tourists lunched on 221-8 in reply to Northants' 269-3 declared but then stopped their innings short on 250-9 before bowling out the county for 140.
That left them with a victory target of 160 and at the close of play they were making good progress on 24-0.
Pace bowler Shahid Nazir took 3-33 in the Northants second innings.
Earlier, David Wigley's best first-class figures of 5-77 left the hosts in decent shape.
Stand-in captain Younis Khan added just eight to his overnight 50 before being one of his victims.
But Northants had a terrible time in their second innings, and they were not helped when Sourav Ganguly retired hurt.
Their bizarre declaration after just 62.3 overs on day one had back-fired spectacularly.
The bowling performances of Nazir (3-33), Iftikhar Anjum (2-19) and Arshad Khan (2-31) will certainly have given Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer food for thought ahead of the second Test against England at Old Trafford.
Woolmer, however, was not present at Wantage Road, preferring instead to check on the
recovery of Shoaib Akhtar in the nets at Edgbaston.
Under-fire openers Salman Butt and Imran Farhat, who both fell for four in the
first innings, faced a nervous last 30 minutes, but will have gained confidence
from seeing the tourists through to the close.
