Lewis took four wickets before lunch at Worcester |
Jon Lewis is hoping to prove England's selectors wrong for overlooking him this winter if he is called up for next week's first Test at Lord's. Lewis grabbed 6-49 in front of two selectors as England A dismissed Sri Lanka for 179 in Worcester.
"At the end of the season the selectors said they thought I didn't have enough pace to go to the sub-continent.
"I feel I can probably do a job anywhere and I'm happy bowling on any sort of wicket," said Lewis.
"It's an England A team game against the tourists and if you get wickets then you're obviously in with a shout of getting in the full side," he said.
"There's some places up for grabs and I'm looking to push my claims."
Lewis, who played three one-day internationals for England last year, took 10 wickets in Gloucestershire's first Championship game for last week.
That prompted a late call-up for this game after Lancashire's Sajid Mahmood was withdrawn for "tactical reasons" ahead of next week's Test.
"When I wasn't selected in the winter, you go back to county cricket and ply your trade and hopefully get a call-up if you do well," said Lewis.
"I think the standard of county cricket is very high at the moment and it's shown that by the guys that have come into the England side recently and done really well
"If you do well at county cricket then you deserve to get a chance."
