Australia were pained to see Fletcher and Vaughan lift the Ashes |
Australia plan to use England coach Duncan Fletcher's account of the Ashes as a motivational guide ahead of the eagerly awaited re-match this winter. After England took the Ashes for the first time since 1987 with a 2-1 win last year, Fletcher released his book: "Ashes regained: The coach's story.
Counterpart John Buchanan said: "I've made the book mandatory reading to get an insight into what happened.
"There are important lessons there we can use to build on this series."
The use of Fletcher's book is the latest in a series of unusual approaches by Buchanan, who has been coach of Australia since 1999.
In the past he has resorted to reciting poetry in the Australia dressing room and using the words of Chinese philosopher Sun-Tzu.
Buchanan has ordered the entire Australia squad to attend a military-style boot camp in Queensland, thought to include some stern physical elements.
Now he has turned to his opposite number and said of his book: "I think it provides a very interesting insight into Fletcher as a coach. He discusses his own philosophies and gives his thoughts on the current players and the way they play the game in England."
