England captain Michael Vaughan admits his side must step up their intensity to stand a chance against India. The tourists lost their final warm-up for the first Test by eight wickets to an Indian Board President's XI.
He said: "It's not been the ideal preparation leading into a tough Test series. We realise there have been a lot of mistakes made in this game.
"We haven't been at our best, we have to eradicate mistakes, practise as hard as we can and start the Test well."
In Vaughan's absence, England were bundled out for 238 and 158, while the bowlers found it tough going against the home batsmen in Baroda.
With tougher opponents to come in a three-Test series, the skipper knows his players will have to go up a few notches to compete.

"The XI that went out could have played a better game. Overall, we didn't show enough discipline in all three departments to put the Indian team we played against under pressure.
"And that's something we're going to have to do for longer periods in the Test match. It's crucial we get off to a good start here."
Coach Duncan Fletcher was once again alarmed at how difficult his players found it to raise their performance levels for a warm-up game.
"We don't seem to play these games to our ability. We've done it for three winters now," he moaned.
"The players seem to struggle to concentrate at the level they should.
"But when the Test comes around they up their game and hopefully they'll do it again."
