Ashley Giles has warned of the threat Shane Warne poses after himself taking 3-78 in Australia's first innings of the second Test at Edgbaston. Giles was the pick of England's bowlers but Warne dismissed Andrew Strauss with a sharp-turning delivery before stumps.
England start the critical third day on 25-1, 124 runs ahead of Australia.
Giles said: "I saw Warne's delivery and it's going to be tricky but you've got to prove yourself every day and there's a long way to go yet."
Giles, who was stung by media criticism following England's first Test defeat at Lord's, also thanked his team-mates for their support in the build-up to the second Test.
"I didn't have anything to prove to myself and I've had a lot of support," said the Warwickshire spinner.
"I've been trying to focus totally on this match and I was happy with the way I batted and pretty happy with how I bowled.
"That's history and I've got a responsibility to my team-mates to do my job well.
"They're a great bunch and they've been supportive all week and I'm very pleased with how it's gone."
Australia's Justin Langer believes Warne will be the key and he said his side could go 2-0 up in the series.
He said: "It would be a great victory from this position. We are behind but Shane showed it's going to be hard work.
"Ashley Giles was hard to bat against with those rough patches but Shane will probably be more difficult," said the left-hander, who made a gritty 82.
