Pietersen smashed 158 in the final Ashes Test

Pietersen, 25, is raring to go after two months out with a rib injury and has vowed to take the game to India's daunting spin attack.

Pietersen said: "They are world-class and it's going to be a challenge. But I'm looking forward to it and I don't think I'm going to change my technique.

"I think it's great for the game and hopefully the purists accept it."

Pietersen toured India with England A in 2003-04 and scored four centuries, but admitted facing Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble would be a different matter.

"You've got to be very, very mentally focused and know your game inside out," said Pietersen. "It's a case of working as hard to groom yourself for the different wickets and spinners.

"It's the confidence factor you need to take to the subcontinent and I have that."

Pietersen scored his second Test century in Pakistan before Christmas, but he was one of the batsmen criticised for attacking too much as England suffered a 2-0 series defeat.

He missed the last three one-day matches through injury but said he is "very, very happy" with his fitness after spending time recuperating in his native South Africa.

"It gave me my first two months off in five or six years," he added. "I'm not concerned at all because there's no pain."

England will play three Tests and seven one-dayers in India, where they have not won a Test series since 1985.
