Sussex's Matt Prior, 23, is a hard hitting wicket-keeper/batsman who has a proven record at making big scores.

He has 11 first-class centuries to his name, including a match-winning 100 against Lancashire in 2003, propelling Sussex to win the County Championship.

His clean driving could pay dividends on the wickets of the sub-continent and former national academy director Rod Marsh is said be a keen admirer.

Not the greatest gloveman, but showed signs of improvement in 2005.

FORM GUIDE

  • He was given a taste of India on the 2004 England A tour, where he featured in one notable partnership with Kevin Pietersen (hiitting 81 in a stand of 182).

  • Prior scored 852 runs at an average of 37 during the 2004 County Championship. He was unable to match that last summer but enjoyed a productive Totesport League campaign as Sussex won the Division Two title.

  • Used as an opening batsman while Geraint Jones took the gloves in the one-day series in Pakistan, scoring a modest 94 in five innings.
