Tremlett's selection shows he is held in high regard by England

Tim Tremlett, director of cricket at Hampshire, spoke of his pleasure after son Chris was selected in England's 12-man squad for the first Ashes Test.

"I'm very proud of Chris and delighted for him," said Tim, who also played first-class cricket for Hampshire.

"I am also a little surprised as he wasn't England's first-choice back-up seamer in the one-dayers this summer.

"But he acquitted himself well and didn't let himself down, and clearly the selectors see that."

The 48-year-old Tremlett realises his son will probably not make the starting XI against Australia at Lord's.

"I don't expect that he will play unless there is an injury to one of the frontline pacemen," he added.

"But his selection in the squad really speaks for the future and Chris has done very well."
