Delay for Ashes ticketing plans
England cricket fan
Cricket Australia says it will outline the ticketing structure for this year's Ashes series "as soon as possible".

Australian newspapers had reported that an announcement about tickets for the matches against England would come from Melbourne on Tuesday.

But CA said in a statement: "Pricing details are still being decided."

Demand from England fans is likely to be higher than ever before when the announcement is made, and sell-outs are expected across the five grounds.

The Adelaide Oval, for instance, is expected to sell all of its 31,000 seats for the first three days of its Test in December well in advance.

The ground has never before witnessed a sell-out for a Test match.

But there are also fears concerning touts - a situation which clouded last summer's Ashes series in England.

"We'll regularly watch for credit card numbers and telephone numbers for people either scalping or buying for big groups," said South Australia Cricket Association boss Mike Deare.

"You can buy a family ticket for about half a dozen people but that's where we're putting the limit."

Deare told The Australian newspaper just 2,000 public seats would be available to overseas tour operators for each day of the Test in Adelaide.

With 10,000 seats a day taken by members, most of the remaining seats will be sold within Australia.

Tickets were originally due to be launched to local cricket clubs on 1 June then be made available to the general public a month later but those dates are likely to be brought forward.

In theory there is nothing to stop English fans buying directly from the grounds, especially if they are keen to avoid surcharges added by the tour operators.

They may, however, need to have the tickets mailed to an address in Australia initially.

Australia have bounced back from their 2-1 loss in England last year, winning home Test series against West Indies and South Africa this season.

England are due to arrive in Australia in the first week of November and play five Tests in just over six weeks.
