Inzamam has had a superb series |
Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq became the 14th batsman to reach 8,000 Test runs on day four of the final Test against England. Inzamam, who retired hurt on 35 on Wednesday, reached the milestone when he passed 45 during his innings of 97.
He is only the second Pakistani batsman, after former captain Javed Miandad, to join the 8,000-club.
Inzamam also passed 1,000 runs in a calendar year for a second time, Mohsin Khan the only other Pakistani to do so.
Inzamam previously achieved the feat in 2000.
He now has his sights on Pakistan's highest Test run scorer, Miandad, seventh in the overall list with 8,832 runs in 124 Tests.
"It is a good feeling and I want to continue adding more runs to my tally for my team until the 2007 World Cup," said Inzamam.
The 35-year-old was disappointed at being run out short of his third successive Test hundred but said the mix-up with Rana Naved-ul-Hasan was part of the game.
"We were looking for quick runs and there was a misunderstanding and it is not the first time it has happened to me," he said.
West Indian Brian Lara tops the list with 11,204 in 121 Tests, after surpassing Australian Allan Border's record of 11,174 in the final Test against Australia in Adelaide last week.
