England captain Vaughan salutes Flintoff |
Colin Flintoff has described how proud he is of his son Andrew, who has sparked an Ashes frenzy this summer. Flintoff senior has been instrumental in Andrew's career and told BBC Sport: "It's hard to take in that it is our lad who is giving it to Australia."
He has scored 194 runs and taken 16 wickets for England in three Tests.
But Colin said: "What I enjoy most and what makes me most proud is the respect he seems to get from the other players around the world."
Flintoff was praised for consoling Australia's Brett Lee immediately after England had won the second Test at Edgbaston by two runs, instead of celebrating with his team-mates.
Colin said: "That sums Andrew up to a tee."
He also revealed how cricket's new-found popularity has meant his son being recognised everywhere he goes.
The 27-year-old lives in Knutsford with his wife Rachel and daughter Holly and has been inundated by autograph hunters.
"Everyone wants a piece of him at the moment," said Colin.
"He can't just go to the pub these days. He even gets hassled when he goes to the supermarket or out for a meal.
"But I suppose that is part and parcel of it."
Colin and his wife Susan have been at every Ashes Test this summer and will be at Trent Bridge and The Oval to watch their son.
"We've been going to his games since he was nine-years-old so we are not going to stop now," he added.
