KEY MOMENTS OF THE FINAL DAY:
ENGLAND WIN BY TWO RUNS
1209: WICKET Australia 279 all out (Kasprowicz 20)
Harmison produces a lifting ball down the leg-side which Kasprowicz gloves behind. Bowden lifts his finger and England celebrate wildly. What a finish to one of the greatest matches in history!
1208: Harmison bowls a wide full-toss which Lee chases and connects with. But it is only a single to deep cover.
1207: Lee is again hit on the fingers but scrambles through for the single and the tourists only need four runs. The margin for error is miniscule now.
1206: Flintoff steams in and bowls four short balls to Lee. The fifth almost finds the edge again.
1203: These two have put on 57 and taken Australia to the brink of one of the greatest wins in history. No-one could have imagined this at the start of play.
1202: Harmison is bowling at express pace now but Kasprowicz manages ot keep out a yorker with the thinnest of edges.
1201: Lee keeps out a full-length one from Harmison and there's an easy single. England cannot afford any more mistakes.
1200: Kasprowicz is beaten by the last ball of Flintoff's over. It was desperately close to finding the edge.
1159: Kasprowicz also takes a single with a smart piece of batting, playing out on the off-side. Another run to Lee off the next ball on the on-side reduces the target to six.
1158: Lee takes a quick single and now it's the Australians who are jumping up and down in the crowd. England supporters are biting their remaining finger nails.
1156: Flintoff, striving for a yorker, sends a no-ball one down leg-side and it races away to the fine-leg boundary. Nine needed to win!
1155: MISS Kasprowicz plays an upper cut off Flintoff but Simon Jones cannot hold on at third man.
1153: Lee edges Harmison to Strauss at gully but the ball fails to carry. The ball beats the bat off the last ball of the over. That was better from an England point of view but the outcome is still on a knife-edge.
1152: Harmison is full and straight and an inside edge saves Lee. He wafts at the next one and misses. This isn't help anyone's nerves!
1150: Lee gets an inside edge to the first ball of Harmison's over and it runs away to fine-leg for four! Australia need 15 to win.
1149: Lee is hit on the pad with the next one, a 91mph delivery which swings and seams. He breathes heavily. The next one squirts away on the on-side for a leg-bye and Lee keeps the strike.
1148: There is swelling on his hand but he will continue after treatment from the physio. He has no other choice!
1146: Lee is in real pain as the third one, yet another brutish short one, hits him on the left hand. He drops the bat and looks in agony. How many blows can he take?!
1444: Lee has a huge swipe at the first ball from Flintoff and misses.
1143: The talismanic Flintoff comes on at the City End. A wicket now would be a fitting end to the game from an England point of view.
1142: The crowd are now worried and urge Harmison on but Kasprowicz keeps out the rest of the over with ease. This is a real mental test for Vaughan and his side. Will they snatch defeat from the jaws of victory?
1140: Kasprowicz somehow digs out a yorker and turns it over square-leg for two off the first ball. The second is a shocker wide down the leg-side and runs away for four byes. A sign of Harmison's nerves and Australia now need just 20 to win!
1139: Lee turns Harmison away on the on-side for a single. Harmison now has potentially five deliveries at Kasprowicz.
1138: Harmison comes back. Vaughan gives him a pat on the back - can he deliver for England?
1137: Neither batsman looks in trouble against Giles and they comfortably pick up three in singles.
1132: The players take drinks at the end of a frenetic hour, with Australia suddenly sensing an unlikely victory.
1130: The first of those five is turned by Kasprowicz to backward square-leg for two and he sees out the other four. It is turning into a nerve-jangling finish to a classic Test match.
1129: Lee steers a short Flintoff down to third man to bring up Australia's 250. Flintoff now has five balls at Kasprowicz - can he make one count?
1127: Kasprowicz swings Giles high over Harmison at mid-off and edges wide of Trescothick at slip for successive fours. He is on 13, the partnership is worth 29, and Australia are getting too close for England's liking!
1125: Lee comes down the track and launches Giles to the deep mid-wicket boundary to move to 29.
1123: Kasprowicz shuffles across again and flicks Flintoff down to fine-leg for four before superbly digging out a yorker. Australia need 46 to win now.
1120: Lee chops at one from Flintoff and the ball flies over Giles in the slips and an overthrow brings them a second run.
1119: Kasprowicz shuffles across his stumps and is hit on the pad by Flintoff but Bowden says no and they collect a leg-bye.
1116: Kasprowicz drives at and misses one from Giles which lifts up and runs away for a bye. A second successive maiden from Giles, who has once again provided the control Vaughan was looking for.
1115: There are two more brutal deliveries delivered in the 90mph bracket to complete a ferocious over from Flintoff. Lee does well to survive, in every sense of the word.
1114: Lee edges another short one from Flintoff, a no-ball, wide of Strauss at second slip to the third-man boundary.
1113: The next one is a bit too short and Lee ducks away. We might have a yorker thrown in soon.
1112: Lee turns away from a nasty short one from Flintoff and is hit on the elbow. He is in real pain, but Flintoff is in no mood to offer sympathy - he is on the verge of glory.
1111: Kasprowicz survives a king pair and gets off the mark with a single.
1108: WICKET Australia 220-9 (Warne 42)
Warne steps back and across to a Flintoff delivery which passes down the leg-side and walks into his own stumps! England have the breakthrough they were desperate for and are in sight of victory.
1107; Giles almost vindicates his captain's decision when Warne attempts to turn the ball away and gets a leading edge which nearly carries to mid-on.
1104: Giles is brought into the attack in place of Harmison with England's desperation for a wicket growing. A surprise move and something of a victory for the batsmen.
1102: Warne hobbles through for a leg-bye after being hit on the knee by a Flintoff delivery that moves off the pitch. But the umpire adds insult to injury by chalking off the leg-bye and signalling a dead ball. Bowden has not had the best of games and that decision was a bit odd.
1101: Lee, like Warne growing in confidence, drives Flintoff down the ground and picks up three.
1057: Harmison pitches one up and Lee drives him to long-off for another boundary. He goes to 15 and Warne is on 41 - the target is down to 66.
1055: Warne walks across his crease and is hit by a rising Harmison delivery which comes high off his bat and flies over the slips for four. An extraordinary piece of cricket!
1053: The ninth-wicket pair have put on 32 in almost as many minutes. England don't need to panic yet but if this continues for much longer they will start to get worried.
1050: An audacious cut brings Warne four more off Flintoff to third man to take him to 34 and bring up Australia's 200. England take a slip out and post him to that part of the ground to stop the runs leaking.
1048: The ball loops off the shoulder of the bat and loops away wide of gully for a single. A lucky escape for Lee off Harmison. The batsman then flicks Harmison away to the mid-wicket boundary to move to nine. Australia need 84 to win now.
1047: Warne cuts a short and wide one from Harmison to backward point for his second boundary.
1045: Flintoff bowls three no-balls in an over. He is striving for that breakthrough but England will still want to keep the runs down.
1039: Warne slashes Harmison to backward point for a single. Australia now need exactly 100 more to win. Lee is beaten by the last ball of a fast and aggressive over.
1038: A fine piece of fielding at gully from Strauss prevents a boundary as Warne attempts to play the ball down again to third man. The next ball from Harmison beats him after bouncing a bit more than he expected and moves a touch off the seam.
1036: Warne makes room for himself and plays an upper cut off Harmison to third man for two. He looks determined to play his shots, which could play into England's hands.
1034: Warne drags one from Flintofff from outside off-stump and pulls it to square-leg for a single.
1033: Warne is hit on his pad by a Flintoff delivery which is short of a length but Bowden shakes his head. There is already a terrific, celebratory, atmosphere at Edgbaston.
1032: Day-three hero Flintoff bowls a yorker with his first-delivery, a no-ball, which Warne digs out well.
1030: Lee pushes the first ball from Harmison square on the off-side and picks up two. The second is a quick one, but is short and wide outside off-stump.
1028: The players are out on the field. Harmison has two balls left in his over after dismissing Clarke with the fourth on Saturday evening.
1008: The ground is looking pretty full already, with home fans anticipating victory celebrations. But Warne has shown he is in good form with the bat, and Lee is a capable batsman so it might not be so straightforward.
