 Key hit a double-century at Lord's |
Rob Key admits his England place is under threat despite hitting 221 in the win over the West Indies. Key plays in the second Test after Mark Butcher aggravated an injury.
"You never know, with someone like Mark Butcher, he's obviously such a great player who's done brilliant things for England," he told BBC Kent.
"I'd be disappointed to be dropped but Mark Butcher deserves more than someone crashing into the back of him and missing out on a few Tests."
Butcher's injury woes began with a thigh injury, were made worse by a car crash that caused whiplash and frustrated further when he aggravated the thigh problem lifting a box at home.
Until last week Butcher, who is 32 next month, had played the last 42 consecutive Tests, scoring 2938 runs at an average of 41.97.
Key, 25, almost doubled his career run-haul with 236 runs at Lord's, in what was his ninth Test.
"Over the last 40-odd Tests he's averaged over 40 which is higher than my nine or ten Tests," Key admitted.
