Alec Stewart believes that Glamorgan's Alex Wharf can fill England's need for another one day all-rounder.
Hosts England missed out on the final of the NatWest Series after coming second best in matches against the West Indies and New Zealand.
"We need to find one more bowling all-rounder," Stewart said.
"A name I'll throw in is Alex Wharf down at Glamorgan, I think he's got half a chance from the little bit I've seen of him."
Glamorgan are riding high in both the National League and the Twenty20 Cup and several players have caught the eye in the limited overs competitions.
Mike Powell is pushing for inclusion into England's one-day side as a batsman, coming close as an injury call-up to the England squad for their opening NatWest Series game against New Zealand.
Ian Thomas scored a Twenty20 record of 116 - which he shares with Graeme Hick - in the win against Somerset on Monday.
Darren Thomas has also impressed with bat and ball, while Wharf - signed by the Dragons as an out-and-out bowler - averages more than 25 with the bat in all competions.
Although Wharf has caught Stewart's eye, the wicket-keeper/batsman believes that Surrey team-mate Rikki Clarke - if he continues to improve - and Sussex's Robin Martin-Jenkins could also provide a solution.
"Where we really fall down is that (Andrew) Flintoff is the only genuine all-rounder with bat and ball," Stewart added.
"We've got the right make-up, the batting is pretty good and we should still stick with (Marcus) Trescothick and (Michael) Vaughan at the top of the order."
