White misses one-day series
Craig White
White has been floored by injury yet again
England all-rounder Craig White will miss the one-day series against India this month to undergo keyhole surgery on his knee.

The 32-year-old will be out of action for 3-4 weeks but he is expected to be fit for the New Zealand leg of this winter's tour and England will not be calling up a replacement player.

A scan over the Christmas break revealed that White had torn a cartilage in his left knee during the last day of the third Test against India in Bangalore.

"I dived for a ball fielding at backward point and felt my knee lock up," said White.

"We thought it was best to get a scan done and it showed that it was a very similar injury to the one I had in my other knee earlier in the year.

"So hopefully I will only be out for three weeks and I will be able to tour New Zealand.

"But it is better to get it right now rather than break down half way through the series."

"It's unfortunate but you can't let injuries get you down - it's a risk of the job."

The latest injury comes at a frustrating time for White after he had re-established himself in the England line-up following his maiden Test ton against India in Ahmedabad.

White was forced to sit out England's one-day series in Zimbabwe last October after undergoing surgery on cartilage in his other knee that he injured slipping in the bath the previous month.

I will have plenty of opportunites to impress the selectors
Craig White

He had been pencilled in for a pinch-hitting role in Zimbabwe as England started rebuilding their side for the World Cup in 2003.

But White told BBC Sport Online that he still has time to stake his claim for the World Cup squad.

"We have got a lot of one-dayers coming up between now and the World Cup. It is not a worry for me at the moment," he said.

"We have got the matches in New Zealand, a triangular series in England, then more one-dayers in Australia.

"If all goes well and I get my body right I will have plenty of opportunites to impress the selectors."

England start their one-day series in India later this month are due to play five limited-overs internationals in New Zealand starting on 13 February, followed by a three-match Test series.
