Ganguly unhappy with batsmen
Man-of-the-series Sachin Tendulkar was annoyed at himself for not making a ton in Bangalore after falling for 90
Tendulkar picked up the man-of-the-series award
India captain Sourav Ganguly was full of praise for England's tenacity but criticised his own side's batting following their 1-0 Test series win.

"The Englishmen came back well in the series. They played good cricket, both at Ahmedabad and here in Bangalore," said Ganguly after the third and final Test was abandoned as a draw due to bad weather.

I'm disappointed at how I missed the hundred in Bangalore
India's Sachin Tendulkar
"I thought we played pretty well in Mohali but not at Ahmedabad and Bangalore.

"Our batting has got to be worked on a lot. We did not do well enough.

"But in the last six or seven months we have bowled pretty well. In this series Anil (Kumble), (Javagal) Srinath and Harbhajan (Singh) bowled well."

Man-of-the-series Sachin Tendulkar was annoyed at himself for not making a ton in Bangalore after falling for 90.

"I'm pretty happy with the way I played, but this Test could have been better," he said.

"I'm disappointed at how I missed the hundred in Bangalore, I thought I had it in my pocket."

Tendulkar was out stumped for the first time in his 12-year Test career, by James Foster after good bowling from left-arm spinner Ashley Giles.

England's cricketers fly back home for a Christmas break before returning to India for a one-day series in January.

Ganguly's uncertain future

India's selectors have remained tight-lipped over Sourav Ganguly's future as captain.

Ganguly has not scored a Test hundred for two years, and since taking over as captain 16 tests ago he has recorded only three half-centuries.

"It is worrying for us he is not doing well," said chief selector Chandu Borde.

"This patch comes in every cricketer's life. Unfortunately in his case, it has prolonged quite a lot."

Ganguly's tenancy as captain officially ends after the one-day series against England, in February.

"It is too early to say now, when we have selected him for the entire series," added Borde.
