As it happened: England v Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe 195-6 beat England 191-8

Grant Flower produced a superbly-judged innings to steer Zimbabwe to a confidence-boosting win at Trent Bridge.

He rounded off the match with a boundary to reach 96 not out after crucial partnerships with Stuart Matsikenyeri (44) and Sean Ervine (26 not out).

England posted a modest total on a less than ideal one-day wicket with only Andrew Flintoff (53) playing an innings of substance.

Richard Johnson and Darren Gough reduced the tourists to 15-4 at the start of their reply, but Flower kept his head to take the tourists home.

How it happened:

48th over: Giles overpitches and Ervine strokes the ball away in fine style for four. The next ball is flicked for a single to bring the scores level. Flower completes the formalities with an extra cover boundary.

47th over: Gough comes in to complete his stint with England desperate for a wicket or two. He tries a bouncer, slower ball and a yorker but all to no avail and finishes with 2-40.

46th over: England put their faith in spin with Giles back into the attack. He does not look threatening as Zimbabwe pick up the singles to move closer to their target.

45th over: Gough finds the edge of Ervine's bat but the ball flies away to third man for two with no slip in place. Flower turns the screw with a confident extra cover drive for four.

44th over: England gamble by using up Flintoff's final over with six still to come. Flower flicks off his pads to square leg for two and adds two more with a pull shot - Gough saving the boundary with a diving save.

43rd over: It's make or break now for England as Gough comes on, with just three overs left. Flower hits him for four over mid-wicket and Zimbabwe are in excellent shape to win now.

42nd over: Ervine drives McGrath through a gap in the off-side for four very important runs.

41st over: Streak is run out at the non-striker's end, after a dreadful mix-up and a direct hit from Vaughan.
Zimbabwe 142-6

40st over: McGrath atones for his poor previous over to concede just the single.

39th over: Flower collects three from off Flintoff.

38th over: McGrath comes back on and immediately concedes five wides. Disastrously, the over is worth 10 in all.

37th over: Flintoff comes back on and concedes just a single but the required run rate is still well under five.

36th over: Flower plays an identical shot off Johnson for another boundary.

35th over: Clarke over-pitches and Flower produces a superb lofted on-drive for four runs.

34th over: Johnson, striving to add to his three wickets, bowls his ninth over.

33rd over: Vaughan misses a chance to run Streak out before the batsman has scored as Clarke returns and concedes just a single.

32nd over: Johnson is back on and immediately watches Flintoff fail in his attempt to catch Matsikenyeri at slip. Later in the over the batsman drives the bowler straight to mid-off and is out.
Zimbabwe 111-5

31st over: McGrath is driven for four by Flower.

30th over: Flower uses his feet to drive Giles for four over extra-cover.

29th over: Three more runs come from this McGrath over.

28th over: Giles has been a failure today and with more runs haemorrhaged here Zimbabwe need less than 100 to win.

27th over: Matsikenyeri drives the new bowler McGrath straight for six having attempted the shot earlier in the over and almost being caught at long on.

26th over: Six runs come off another Giles over and the momentum is all with Zimbabwe now, Read missing a run out opportunity.

25th over: Flower plays and misses outside the off stump as Flintoff continues.

24th over: Giles comes round the wicket after being swept for four by Flower.

23rd over: The fifty partnership comes up but Flintoff is still hard to get away.

22nd over: McGrath misfields to gift Flower four runs at backward point.

21st over: Flower has had enough and he comes down the wicket before driving Flintoff square for four.

20th over: Flower is almost run out but Giles fails to get behind the stumps to collect Clarke's throw.

19th over: Flintoff's third over has Flower driving down the ground for three.

18th over: Giles comes on and immediately gives away four easy singles on the off-side bowling over the wicket.

17th over: Flintoff bowls his second over, and it costs two runs.

16th over: Matsikenyeri cuts a wide delivery in Clarke's first over for four easy runs.

15th over: Flintoff replaces Gough and is on the spot immediately, Flower allowing the big Lancastrian to start with a maiden.

14th over: Matsikenyeri drives Johnson beautifully over extra cover for four, and over mid-on for four more. This is much more like it for the southern Africans.

13th over: Zimbabwe collect six runs off Gough's seventh over and they will be pleased with that.

12th over: Johnson bowls a maiden at the increasingly-suspicious Flower.

11th over: McGrath misses a golden opportunity to run out Matsikenyeri and both that batsman and Flower edge between third slip and gully in another fine Gough over.

10th over: Johnson's first bad ball, short outside off stump, is cut straight to Solanki at point.
Zimbabwe 15-4

9th over: Gough bowls another maiden at Flower.

8th over: Taibu is all at sea against Johnson, but eventually chops an unconvincing four past Flintoff in the slips.

7th over: Gough is on the money again, bowling a maiden at Flower.

6th over: Johnson tries to tempt Flower into the drive but the experienced number four is having none of it.

5th over: Friend drives Gough on the up past mid-off for four, but the bowler digs one in later on in the over and the batsman can only glove it to Clarke.
Zimbabwe 8-3

4th over: Friend drives Johnson just wide of Clarke at third slip and he gets off the mark with a single.

3rd over: Now Gough joins the party, Marillier edging to gully where Clarke dives forward to take a fine catch.
Zimbabwe 3-2

2nd over: Johnson's first over in one-day cricket, like his first over in Test cricket, brings about immediate success as Ebrahim nicks straight to Flintoff at slip.
Zimbabwe 2-1

1st over: Gough opens the bowling and is pretty impressive early on.

ENGLAND INNINGS

50th over: Giles faces up to the hat-trick ball - the last of England's innings - and pushes to mid-off for a single.

50th over: Blignaut takes two wickets with successive deliveries as Clarke is bowled behind his legs. England 190-8

50th over: Read slogs Blignaut back over his head but Brent takes an excellent catch on the boundary edge. England 190-7

49th over: Clarke picks up his first four by skilfully flipping a full toss down to long leg. Read adds two by hitting Streak straight down the ground.

48th over: Streak gambled by bringing back Blignaut, whose first six overs cost 43. Read is now willing to take the aerial route and and collects twos to cover and third man.

47th over: Zimbabwe skipper Streak returns and is unlucky when a second ball lbw shout against Clarke is turned down.

46th over: Clarke and Read are content to push the score along in singles as Flower maintains a tight leg-stump line.

45th over: Read collects a welcome boundary as he hoiks a full toss from outside off stump to the mid-wicket fence, but Marillier finishes with 1-30 from his 10 overs.

44th over: A mis-field by Matsikenyeri gives Read a bonus second run.

43rd over: England's destroyer Marillier completes another good over.

42nd over: Just one run comes off Flower's second over.

41st over: Marillier strikes for the crucial wicket as Flintoff skies to mid-wicket.
England 144-6

40th over: Flower, the third spinner, is on now and he immediately settles into a good length.

39th over: Clarke gets off the mark in this Marillier over and Flintoff reaches his fifty.

38th over: Price finishes off, with superb figures of 1-20.

37th over: McGrath runs himself out attempting a second run off Marillier which is simply not there.
England 134-5

36th over: England produce some more ungainly cricket.

35th over: Flintoff fails to connect with an attempted slog across the line off Marillier.

34th over: McGrath finally uses his feet to hit Price for four.

33rd over: McGrath has now faced 31 balls for his five runs.

32nd over: It's the same old story for McGrath and this over is a maiden.

31st over: McGrath looks to have no idea how to score runs off spinners on a wicket like this.

30th over: Spin continues to strangle England's ambition as Price gives away nothing.

29th over: Flintoff hits Marillier's first ball for four, but is dropped on the last as Flower misses a simple chance at deep square leg.

28th over: McGrath shows a stonewall bat to Price, allowing a maiden as the run rate sinks to desperate depths.

27th over: More problems for England as Marillier, the most occasional of bowlers, goes for only a single.

26th over: Price bowls another excellent over at Flintoff.

25th over: McGrath gets off the mark in Ervine's eighth over.

24th over: Key plays all over a Price delivery and his tortuous innings comes to a merciful conclusion as he is clean bowled.
England 104-4

23rd over: England are finding runs almost impossible to come by now, Ervine steady again.

22nd over: The becalmed Key attempts a reverse sweep against Price but misses.

21st over: Ervine, having switched ends, keeps the batsmen quiet.

20th over: Left-arm spinner Price is on now and the scoring rate drops further with just a single off the over.

19th over: No dramas in this Blignaut over - it costs just two runs.

18th over: Key responds poorly to Flintoff's call for a run and Flintoff is lucky to survive being run out.

17th over: Blignaut returns for a second spell, having switched ends.

16th over: Flintoff lofts Ervine straight down the ground for four.

15th over: Friend finally replaces Streak and Flintoff cuts him in the air, just missing Flower, for four. In the same over, he pulls two long hops for two more boundaries.

14th over: Key looks fortunate to survive an excellent shout for lbw against Ervine in a good maiden over.

13th over: Flintoff is watchful in Streak's seventh over.

12th over: Flintoff plays out five dot balls before driving an Ervine no-ball for four.

11th over: Key gets off the mark in Streak's sixth over before Trescothick cuts the bowler straight to the Flower at wide slip.
England 57-3

10th over: Ervine, replacing Blignaut, drops short and Trescothick pulls him for another four, just missing a maximum. Then Vaughan gets a big top edge on a pull, and is comfortably caught by Taibu.
England 56-2

9th over: Trescothick is opened up by Streak, fortuitously edging over the wide slip for four.

8th over: Vaughan collects his first boundary, driving Blignaut just in front of point for four, and follows up with a mighty pull which bounces just inside the rope for another four.

7th over: Streak beats Trescothick with a gem of a delivery, but the batsman responds by swatting the bowler leg-side for another boundary.

6th over: Zimbabwe persist with Blignaut who does a little better in his latest over.

5th over: Vaughan gets off the mark in another tight Streak over.

4th over: Blignaut strays in line and length and Trescothick collects four boundaries: one square on the leg-side, one cut through point, another driven though cover, and the last flicked through the leg-side.

3rd over: The first wicket comes as Solanki cuts Streak straight to Ebrahim to be easily caught in a wicket maiden.
England 9-1

2nd over: Blignaut's first ball is effortlessly cut away for four by Trescothick, and Solanki gets off the mark in the same over. The bowler switches to round-the-wicket at the left-handed Trescothick.

1st over: Trescothick gets England underway with a single down to fine leg off Streak.

1015: Streak wins the toss for Zimbabwe and elects to field first.

0930: England decide to hand debuts to two new players, Johnson and Key.
