Harmison took nine wickets in the two-Test series |
Steve Harmison was thrilled to take the last two wickets on his home ground to seal England's 2-0 Test series win against Zimbabwe. Harmison claimed four wickets in the second innings after grabbing a couple in the first innings.
James Anderson and Richard Johnson also managed to claim six wickets each in the match.
England's novice team are already gelling smoothly with a busy one-day schedule to come before a five-Test series at the end of the summer against South Africa.
Harmison said: "Everybody was wanting me to get the last wicket. It's brilliant, very pleasing.
"It's the best figures in Test cricket on my home ground - what more do you want? Fantastic."
Harmison clearly sensed the history behind the occasion, having helped England to a convincing win in the first Test to be staged in Chester-le-Street.
"The fans were excellent," he said. "This is what the club's wanted for a long time. I think they'll be pretty pleased in the boardroom with 12,000 fans here today."
James Anderson revealed Harmison had charitably allowed him to bowl an over at Doug Hondo.
But he just missed his chance of a second consecutive five-wicket haul in only his second Test.
"Harmy stepped aside for me there, but obviously I didn't quite get the five wickets," he said.
"Things are going well with Richard Johnson doing his bit and Ashley Giles bowled well too."
Man-of-the-series Mark Butcher, who does not feature in the one-dayers, is already looking forward to the Tests against South Africa.
The Surrey all-rounder said: "That should be a fantastic series. Both sides should be evenly matched but I think with the home advantage we can probably turn them over."
