One of Zimbabwe's brigthtest batting prospects, Coventry was first called into the national squad for a one-day series in India last year but did not make the final XI for any of the matches.

He had previously been the under-19 team's leading run scorer at the youth World Cup in New Zealand where he made 314 runs at an average of 44.85.

His father, also called Charles, is an umpire, and has stood in five one-day internationals, the last of them against England at Bulawayo in October 2001.
