Makhaya Ntini revealed his pride at having his name inscribed on the famous Lord's honours board after taking 5-75 to hustle England out for 173. Three England batsmen perished to the hook shot against Ntini |
The South African paceman first struck gold when he removed openers Marcus Trescothick and Michael Vaughan early on day one of the second Test.
He followed up by dismissing Alec Stewart and Andrew Flintoff shortly after lunch, and grabbed his fifth scalp by bowling Stephen Harmison.
Ntini told BBC Five Live: "Hopefully the new generation will come and see that Makhaya Ntini has taken five wickets here.
"When I was here in 1998 I saw the boards and Jonty Rhodes and Allan Donald got their names on them.
"I thought 'what about getting my own name here?' "
Ntini said all the bowlers played their part in the rout of the home side.
"Shaun Pollock bowled marvellously, and Andrew Hall played his role well too."
He was happy about removing both England openers.
"If you bowl them bad balls they punish. It doesn't matter how you get them out - you feel happy about it."
Ntini also paid tribute to Graeme Smith who hit 80 not out late in the day to add to scores of 277, and 85 from Edgbaston.
"Everyone now is going to follow his steps," said the paceman. "He's a leader in everything he does."
