Shahzad ended weeks of speculation by agreeing a new deal |
Yorkshire have agreed new contracts with five of their current players. Last season's player's player of the year Ajmal Shahzad, a 24-year-old all-rounder, has signed a three-year deal up until the end of the 2012 season. Wicketkeeper-batsman Gerard Brophy, 33, penned a contract extension which will keep him at Headingley up until 2011. Academy players Gary Ballance, 19, and Oliver Hannon-Dalby, 20, have agreed pro deals for three years while Ben Sanderson, 20, will stay until 2011. Ballance is left-hander and played for Zimbabwe under-19s and Halifax-born Hannon-Dalby has one senior appearance to his name. All-rounder Sanderson played for England under-19s and appeared twice for Yorkshire in 2008. Yorkshire chief executive Stewart Regan said: "It is excellent that our players are committing their futures to the club. "Ajmal Shahzad has enjoyed a hugely promising 2009 season and Gerard Brophy continues to impress with the gloves and middle-order runs. "It is crucial to the club that our talented youngsters remain at Headingley," he added.
