Yorkshire must now consider whether to replace Gillespie |
Seam bowler Jason Gillespie will not play any further part in Yorkshire's bid for the County Championship title. He has been called into the Australia A squad for a tour to Pakistan, which runs from 5-22 September.
The 32-year-old replaces Shane Harwood, who suffered a shoulder injury while training with the Victoria state squad.
Gillespie has taken 23 wickets to help Yorkshire to a 14-point lead at the top of Championship Division One, but their main rivals all have games in hand.
He has been away since the Natwest Pro40 victory over Glamorgan on 20 August, attending a training camp for Australia's centrally contracted players in Coolum.
And it could be he has played his final game for Yorkshire, as county clubs can only have one overseas player next summer instead of two.
The club is still awaiting a work permit for Pakistan leg-spinner Imran Tahir, who is set to take Gillespie's place in the first-team squad.
Meanwhile, they have decided not to offer youngsters Nick Thornicroft, Chris Gilbert and Greg Norton contracts for 2008.
"We feel that we are unlikely to be able to offer 1st XI opportunities in the near future," director of cricket Martyn Moxon commented.
