Jaques has made a positive impression at Headingley |
Yorkshire have extended the contract of batsman Phil Jaques. The left-hander was initially recruited to provide cover while Darren Lehmann was touring Zimbabwe with Australia.
He is to stay on at Headingley because Ian Harvey returned from the same tour with a hamstring injury and will be out of action for at least three weeks.
Jaques celebrated in style on Wednesday with a century against Essex as Yorkshire made a strong start in their Championship match at Chelmsford.
Harvey's injury rules him out of Yorkshire's big C&G Trophy quarter-final against Roses rivals Lancashire at Old Trafford on 16 June.
Jaques, who made over 1,400 runs for Northants last summer, has done well since joining Yorkshire.
He scored 172 runs in his first two two Championship appearances for the club, and also has a Totesport League century against Sussex to his credit.
