Batty has been linked with a return to former county Surrey |
Worcestershire have agreed to release former England bowler Gareth Batty from the final year of his contract. The 31-year-old spinner joined the county from Surrey in 2002 and has played at both Test and one day international level. Chief executive Mark Newton said it was a logical move for the club. "Following Gareth's request to talk to other counties, he has let us know he would like to move at the end of the season," he said. "We would like to acknowledge his contribution to our successes over the last eight years which has helped him secure England selection in seven Test matches and 10 one-day internationals. | 606: DEBATE |
"I know he has enjoyed his time with Worcestershire but feels the need to move on at this stage in his career." Batty is one of a number of players expected to leave New Road with wicketkeeper Steve Davies already informing the county he would not be signing a new contract. Opener Stephen Moore also has a clause in his contract that allows him to move from the club, if they are relegated from the Division One of the County Championship.
