Gul has recently been playing for Pakistan against India |
Worcestershire director of cricket Steve Rhodes is still hoping to recruit Pakistan pace bowler Umar Gul as their overseas player for the 2008 season. Chief executive Mark Newton had recently said it was unlikely that Gul would be coming to New Road.
But Rhodes told the Worcester News: "It appears negotiations are not closed. I am waiting for a call from his agent.
"It looks like the Pakistan Cricket Board are worried about the amount of cricket that Gul is playing."
If a deal can be agreed - and cleared with the PCB - then Gul is likely to link up with the county between early May and early August.
He has been passed fit for the second Test of Pakistan's current series against India, which begins on Friday, after missing the first Test with a back problem.
Gul has taken 67 wickets in 16 Tests at an average of 31.55, and had been set to join Gloucestershire for the 2007 county season before the PCB blocked the move.
