De Bruyn is on the fringes of the current South Africa side |
Worcestershire have signed South African all-rounder Zander de Bruyn for 2005, joining Shoaib Akhtar as the county's second overseas signing. De Bruyn has averaged 74 with the bat in the past domestic season.
The 29-year-old, who also bowls fast medium, scored 83 on his Test debut in 2004 against India in Kanpur.
Worcestershire director of cricket Tom Moody said: "I believe we have found the right person in Zander. He has had an outstanding first-class season."
Moody added: "He will bring the right qualities to our squad and I have no doubt he will make a positive impact throughout the season."
De Bruyn said: "The opportunity could not have come at a better time in my career and I intend to make it count for the Worcestershire supporters."
