Sussex can beat drop - Robinson

Sussex

Sussex director of cricket Mark Robinson insists his side's County Championship Division One fate has not been sealed yet.

The Sharks need a minimum of 15 points in their final game against Nottinghamshire to avoid the drop.

Robinson told BBC Sussex: "We are where we are, the fat lady's not singing yet.

"We go to Nottingham with a 15-point swing to try and turn around on Lancashire. If we're not good enough we're not good enough."

"We've got to be strong, we've got to stay together, we've got to keep close.

"The true test of character for this club, for its supporters, for its members, for the committee, for the players will happen now because it's easy to be tight when you win and now we're going to get tested for our character."

Whether Sussex are up or down, Robinson reflected on what has been a great year for his club in one-day cricket, if not four-day action.

He said: "I think, in the longer form of the game your limitations can be exposed and our limitations in four-day cricket have been exposed,

"We have collapsed too many times. We've got more hundreds than Durham but less fifties which sums it up as well.

"From a bowling point of view we haven't had enough penetration. Many times we've had teams on the rack but haven't been able to press it home.

"In the one-day and the shorter version, our many all-rounders and emergence of our part time spinners have saved us brilliantly but also as well the absence of Luke Wright hit us."
