Sussex have played cricket at Hove for 167 years |
Sussex have been given the go-ahead to modernise their County Ground home in Hove by council planners, subject to certain conditions being met. "This is wonderful news for the club," chief executive Gus Mackay told BBC Southern Counties Radio.
"We have been around in this community for 167 years and it's great to think that we can stay here.
"I thank everyone who got behind us and helped overturn the officers' recommendation to the councillors."
The proposals were approved by the planning committee - by 11 votes, with one abstention - despite recommendations from council officers that the plans should be turned down.
Mackay added: "We really did not relish the idea of having to move due to development restrictions.
"This will be a fantastic facility, not only for the club, but for Brighton and Hove. We can't wait to get started."
