Tudor hopes to pass on experience |
Surrey seam bowler Alex Tudor is relishing his role as one of the senior statesmen in the Oval dressing room. The 31-year-old told BBC London 94.9 he is happy to pass on his experience: "I've been around a lot and I've been played in some successful sides. "I quite enjoy that now, when I started I had the likes of Martin Bicknell, Joey Benjamin and I was taking on board what I need to do as a professional." Tudor rejoined Surrey last season and has signed a new one-year contract. Next year will mark his 14th season in first-class cricket and he says top quality bowlers such as Darren Gough and Andrew Caddick always helped him after he first broke onto the international scene. "You just pick their brains and learn from them and I just try and impart that on the guys and tell them what to do," he said. | 606: DEBATE | "But there's so much emphasis now on fitness, on staying strong and maybe when I was a bit younger I was doing the wrong stuff but now there's no margin for error." Tudor admits it is an exciting time for him personally, despite the club's relegation to Division Two of the county championship last season. "I just want to get myself back as fit as possible, giving myself every opportunity that come April I can give it my best," he said. "It's a massive year for the club, a little bit of transition with new people coming in but I feel the prospects are good, and we've got a lot of experienced players were. "If Mark Butcher can get over his knee injury it'll be a big plus for the side and hopefully the team can move forward, which for a club of Surrey's size, is what we all need."
