Batty says Surrey will look ahead to Kent on Friday |
Surrey wicket keeper Jonathan Batty says that the Brown caps will forget their opening Twenty20 Cup loss to Essex at the Oval. "Things didn't quite go to plan," he told BBC London 94.9."We're probably best off trying to forget the game." Surrey's slipped to 10-3 in their innings and ended up losing by seven wickets to the Eagles. Batty added: "If you're going to have a performance like that it is probably best to get it out the way early." Surrey posted a disappointing 126-9 after their 20 overs and Essex eased to a seven wicket win with 127-3 after 15 overs. It went wrong early for the Brown Caps when their top three in the batting order, Scott Newman, James Benning and star man Mark Ramprakash all managed just a single apiece. Batty admitted: "When we lost the top order really quickly, we struggled to rebuild but we just didn't play well enough. "It was a great wicket out there and fair play to Essex they bowled really well, particularly with the new ball, and they kept coming at us and didn't let us get back in the game." Surrey face Kent in front of a sold out Oval crowd on Friday and Batty is confident they can turn things around. He added: "We were quite excited about this game but it just wasn't our night so we'll learn from a few mistakes but on the whole forget about it. "We know we're a good side and fingers crossed we can sort things out for Friday." You can hear full ball by ball commentary of Surrey against Kent live on the BBC London website on Friday 13 June 1730 BST.
