Surrey have unveiled plans to redevelop the pavilion end of The Brit Oval, including the building of a hotel. The Surrey Tavern will be demolished, and the Lock and Laker stands replaced, with 2,000 extra seats added.
Chief executive Paul Sheldon said: "There is intense pressure on all grounds that host international cricket to provide high-quality facilities.
"It is vital The Oval continues to strive to produce the best spectator facilities of any cricket stadium."
A statement on the Surrey website revealed the front entrance to the ground would be "completely opened up and finished with an elegant piazza, allowing the original pavilion building to be fully appreciated by visitors and passers by."
Though the ground has improved immeasurably since the completion of the OCS Stand in 2005, the area in front of the pavilion often becomes congested during lunch and tea intervals of Test matches.
The current plan, with 2009 the suggested completion date, would alleviate the crowding.
