Schofield played two Tests for England six years ago |
Surrey have registered former England leg-spinner Chris Schofield until the end of the season. Schofield, released by Lancashire in 2004, had been playing with Suffolk before training at The Oval recently.
He made his debut in Sunday's Pro40 victory over Yorkshire, taking a wicket and going for 39 runs in eight overs.
Surrey are short of spinners after Anil Kumble returned to India with a shoulder problem and Ian Salisbury injured his knee.
Schofield, now 27, was given an England central contract in 2000 but failed to take a wicket in his only two Tests.
After being released by Lancashire, Schofield won a case for unfair dismissal and had been forced to work as a painter during the winter to supplement his income.
