Pakistan spin bowler Saqlain Mushtaq is facing the prospect of six months on the sidelines after being told he needs a second knee operation. Saqlain underwent surgery on his left knee earlier this year, but will now undergo an operation on his right knee next month.
"The doctors say if I don't get proper and permanent treatment my career could come to an end," he said.
Mushtaq has taken 208 Test wickets and 288 in one-day internationals.
But he was dropped from the national team after managing figures of 1-204 in an innings defeat by India at Multan in April.
Saqlain injured his left knee the following month while playing in a Championship fixture for English county side Surrey against Warwickshire.
His latest setback is the second piece of bad news for Pakistan in less than a week.
Young pace bowler Umar Gul has been diagnosed with three stress fractures in his back and may not be able to play again for a year.
