Langer hopes for IPL date change

Justin Langer is still hoping to play the whole of next season for Somerset, despite his commitments to the Indian Premier League in 2009.

Langer has agreed to return to the county next year for a fourth season.

"The word is that they'll bring the IPL back a few weeks so, in an ideal world, I'll be here for the whole summer," Langer told BBC Radio Bristol.

"It's a great project here and one I still want to be involved in. We've got a great thing going at the club."

If the Indian Premier League calendar does not change, however, Langer will miss the first month of the 2009 season as he has a three-year-deal with the Rajasthan Royals.

"My integrity is everything, and I'd signed an agreement to go to the IPL as I did with Somerset," he added.

There's going be a real focus on getting a champion mindset individually and collectively within the squad.

"I sacrificed a lot of money to come back here for the start of this season, so it's very important for me to honour that agreement."

Langer captained Somerset to promotion in both the County Championship and the Pro-40 League last season and he believes there is potential at the club to continue that success.

"I've really enjoyed Division One and it's important we stay there although we're trying to win it," he continued.

"It's really good serious cricket and I enjoy it.

"We set out at the start of every season to win every competition and it's not happened in the Friends Provident and the Twenty20 so, that says to me, we need to be a lot more consistent."

"There's going be a real focus on that and getting a champion mindset individually and collectively within the squad."
