Afghanistan hammered Scotland by nine wickets in the first of two one-day matches at Ayr.

Following their ICC Intercontinental Cup success at the same venue, the visitors had no trouble chasing a target of 224-9 from 50 overs.

Opener Fraser Watts top-scored for the Scots with 55, while Gordon Drummond chipped in with 35 not out late on.

However, Mohammad Shahzad and Karim Sadiq both made unbeaten centuries as Afghanistan eased home in 31 overs.

Opener Noor Ali Zadran was trapped lbw by Matthew Parker for six, but the Scots could not dislodge Sadiq (114 not out) and wicketkeeper Shahzad (100 not out), who added an unbroken 218 for the second wicket.
