Rain denies Dutch in Belfast ODI
Quad series, Stormont: Scotland v Netherlands:
No result, rain

Rain denied the Netherlands team a fine chance of victory in the quadrangular series match against traditional rivals Scotland in Stormont on Friday.

The Dutch were on top after reducing Scotland to a troublesome 71-5 before the rain struck in the 23rd over.

Umpires Shahul Hameed and Darrell Hair made three pitch inspections but took the decision to abandon the game at 1530 BST with rain falling heavily.

Essex all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate had taken 3-25 off eight overs.

But the dreadful weather meant the Netherlands finished the series without a win to their name.

Scotland captain Ryan Watson was left frustrated after yet another Scotland game fell victim to the weather.

We were not in the best position when the rain came down but I believe we could have come back

Scotland captain Ryan Watson

Scotland have seen their last two matches interrupted by rain.

Watson said: "We have got three spinners in myself, Majid Haq and Glenn Rogers and we were certainly looking forward to having a bowl at them - these conditions were ideal for us.

"We were not in the best position when the rain came down but I believe we could have come back.

"It was always going to be tough to bat on that wicket with the ball turning and seaming as it did.

"It has been a frustrating year all round because it has been such a stop-start season. We have watched a lot of rain fall.

"Its difficult for the batsmen to get into a groove but it is just one of those things, we are getting used to it now."

And after two defeats at the hands of the West Indies and Ireland, Dutch seamer Peter Borren was left to ponder what might have been.

"We were going really well, so it is a real shame," he said.

"Having played so poorly against the West Indies and thrown away victory against Ireland it was really disappointing we didn't have the opportunity to make amends today.

"The Scots maybe didn't show a lot of patience at times and to get five wickets was really very encouraging.

"Ryan ten Doeschate coming back into the side always gives us a big boost and he bowled fantastically today."
