Arnie Sidebottom has praised the part Nottinghamshire have played in his son Ryan's rise to international stardom. Sidebottom junior claimed 24 wickets on his way to being named player of the series in the Test win in New Zealand. And Sidebottom snr says his son's move from Yorkshire to Mick Newell's Notts has been of massive importance. "Mick Newell promised him he would open the bowling in all forms of the game," said Sidebottom. "That's what he wanted to do to learn and progress." He added: "Greg Smith, the South African left-arm seam bowler, helped Ryan a lot and then Notts signed Mark Ealham who became Ryan's mentor. "And then the icing on the cake was Stephen Fleming coming. He is rated as one of the best captains in the world."
