Nottinghamshire have signed Australian international batsman Adam Voges to fill the void left by David Hussey. Hussey has signed up to play in the Indian Premier League and will miss the start of the English domestic season. Notts director of cricket Mick Newell was delighted that Voges, 28, will deputise for his fellow countryman. "I'm confident he will prove a more than capable replacement. He's got an excellent pedigree and should be more or less a straight swap," said Newell. "The aim is for him to slot in at number four in four-day and one-day cricket. | He wants to make a role for himself in county cricket and will have that opportunity |
"He's played international cricket for Australia and has a good record with the bat, bowls a bit of left-arm spin and by all accounts is an excellent fielder. "He wants to make a role for himself in county cricket and will have that opportunity with us." Voges, who played for Hampshire in last year's Twenty20 Cup, has represented Australia three times, in a one-day international against New Zealand in Hamilton 13 months ago and also twice in Twenty20 matches. He hit the headlines in 2004-05 when he hit his maiden one-day century for Western Australia off just 62 balls, which was then the fastest in the country's domestic history. Voges hit a career-best 180 for his state in this season's Pura Cup competition and has scored 2,339 runs in 40 first-class games at an average of 40.32.
