Read & Franks pen new Notts deals
Chris Read
Read is looking forward to leading Notts next summer
Captain Chris Read and all-rounder Paul Franks have committed their futures to Notts by agreeing new contracts.

Former England wicket-keeper Read has accepted a new three-year deal, with Franks signing on for two more seasons.

"Chris and Paul are both integral parts of the squad at Notts," said the club's director of cricket Mick Newell.

"Our plans for the future are very much built around the two of them. They are both going to be key members of the team in all competitions."

Read, who has been appointed to succeed New Zealander Stephen Fleming as skipper, hopes to spend the rest of his career at Trent Bridge.

"Being offered the captaincy was a proud moment for me - but I would have signed a new contract, regardless of whether that had happened or not," he said.

"I am confident the squad we have in place at Trent Bridge is one capable of challenging for trophies and I look forward to lifting some silverware as captain in the future."

Notts will be playing top-flight cricket in the Championship next summer after securing promotion by taking second place behind Somerset.

They also enjoyed a good summer in one-day league cricket, finishing as runners-up to Worcestershire in NatWest Pro40 Division One.
