Swann declined a new contract offer from Northants |
Graeme Swann is to leave Northants at the end of the season after signing a three-year deal with Nottinghamshire. Swann was offered a new contract at Wantage Road but wanted a new challenge after seven seasons with Northants.
"Leaving my home club is not a decision I have taken lightly but I feel this is the right time to make a positive move for my own development," he said.
Coach Mick Newell added: "Graeme will further strengthen the Nottinghamshire attack and our batting line-up.
"We hope his performances with Notts next summer will build on a successful winter and put him in contention for a recall to the England team."
Swann, who played a single one-day international in 2000, is the latest in a clutch of England players moving to Trent Bridge from other counties.
Former Yorkshire seamer Ryan Sidebottom and Kent all-rounder Mark Ealham both joined the Division Two leaders last winter.
Northants coach Kepler Wessels wished Swann good luck with his new side.
"I am pleased that Graeme has the chance to develop further his undoubted talent," he added.
