Van der Wath will add firepower to the Northants attack |
Northants have signed South African fast bowler Johannes van der Wath as their second overseas player for 2007. He will join Australian batsman Chris Rogers on the staff at Wantage Road.
Van der Wath has already had two spells in county cricket with Notts and Sussex but this will be his first opportunity to play a full season.
"The time at Sussex last year whetted my appetite and I've heard really good things about Northamptonshire," the 28-year-old commented.
"Plans for next season sound exciting and I want to let the club's fans know that I'll be doing my best to help make it a successful one."
Van der Wath has played eight one-day internationals for South Africa, the most recent only two months ago, and is a fringe candidate for selection for the 2007 World Cup.
He is Northamptonshire's fifth signing of the winter following the arrival of Richard Dawson, Richard Logan, Andrew Crook and Richard Browning.
