Middlesex chase two new players

Codrington says he is hopeful of making two new signings

Middlesex chief executive Vinny Codrington has said the county are hopeful of making two new signings before the start of the season.

New managing director of cricket Angus Fraser has already revealed that he is close to one new addition.

But Codrington told BBC London 94.9: "He's [Fraser] come up with a couple of interesting signings.

"They haven't signed yet but hopefully we'll be able to announce that on 11 March (the club's media day)."

Middlesex lost Ed Smith to retirement and Ed Joyce to Sussex during the winter and are unlikely to see much of new England captain Andrew Strauss this year.

But Codrington says he has a great deal of faith in the young players coming through the ranks at Lord's.

He added: "We are very fortunate, perhaps more than most, in that we have an array of very young talented batsman in the club who are going to get opportunities earlier than both we and they anticipated.

"We may be just about the youngest batting line-up in the County Championship but we are very confident about them."
