Middlesex director of cricket John Emburey has confirmed he is not interested in becoming India coach despite being interviewed for the job. Kent's director of cricket Graham Ford, who was the number one choice of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, turned the job down on Monday.
Emburey also travelled to India for an interview, but wants to stay in London.
Middlesex said in a statement: "John does not want to leave. He wishes to continue as director of cricket."
The statement continued: "John would like to emphasise that at no point was he offered the role as India coach and would like to thank the BCCI for the opportunity to interview for the position."
Emburey, the 54-year-old former England off-spinner, moved from the role of first XI coach at Middlesex - where he had generally struggled - in the off-season.
He said: "I have just got my teeth into a big new challenge at Middlesex and want to stay to complete the job and extend my 36-year association with the club."
The news ends a chaotic few days for Indian cricket - in which Ford was announced as the new national cricket supremo amid great fanfare.
They have been without a coach since April, when former Australia captain Greg Chappell resigned, and are now having to start the selection process again.
For the tour of England, which begins in early July, India will not have an overall coach.
They will make do with a backroom set-up featuring bowling coach Venkatesh Prasad, fielding coach Robin Singh and manager Chandu Borde.
