Baker spent some time at school in London |
Leicestershire have signed fast bowler Lionel Baker on a two-year deal. The 24-year-old West Indian holds a British passport and has played first-class cricket for the Leeward Islands. He represented the West Indies at the 2003/04 Under-19 World Cup and also appeared for Montserrat in the the last two Stanford Twenty20 tournaments. "He came over and netted with us in the summer and impressed us," said senior coach Tim Boon. "He's very keen to play for Leicestershire." Baker has spent this summer playing for Walmley in the Birmingham League and was the subject of interest from both Leicestershire and Warwickshire. He will also represent the Stanford Superstars for the series involving England in Antigua. The signing is the first step in Boon's task to replace South African seamer Garnett Kruger, who will not play for the county next summer. However, Boon admitted there were plans afoot to bring in another paceman. "We're still talking with another fast-bowler, and we hope to tie that deal up," he said.
