Leicestershire all-rounder Jeremy Snape is thrilled to have signed a short-term deal as a high performance coach in the controversial Indian Premier League. Snape's role at the Jaipur-based Rajasthan Royals will see him working with the likes of Shane Warne, Justin Langer and Dimitri Mascarenhas. "It's a fantastic opportunity to be in this management role," he said. "But I'm sure the Leicestershire youngsters will benefit while I'm playing my last few years at the club." The 34-year-old flew out on Wednesday and is due to return on Friday 2 May. | I think the benefits hugely outweigh the costs |
Snape, who assisted England at the 2007 World Cup, will miss the Foxes' Friends Provident Trophy tie against Northamptonshire and three County Championship games. But with Snape unlikely to be a key figure in the four-day game he told BBC Radio Leicestershire it was too good an opportunity to turn down. "It comes at a great time I can be away for three weeks and miss only one one-day fixture," he said. "I think the benefits hugely outweigh the costs and for me personally it's another stride forward in my development." Snape has received the backing of the club, who have described it as a "fantastic opportunity". A statement added: "Leicestershire are very supportive of his involvement and are sure that he can pass on the experiences gained in India to our younger players, particularly, in our Twenty20 campaign."
