Maddy is currently enjoying his benefit year with Leicestershire |
Leicestershire all-rounder Darren Maddy could be on his way out of Grace Road after 13 seasons with the club. Maddy is wanted by Warwickshire and new county champions Sussex and appears set on a move even though Leicestershire have offered a new two-year contract.
The 32-year-old won three Test caps in 1999-2000 but it is as a one-day player that he is now held in high esteem.
He was the star when Leicestershire beat Notts to win the Twenty20 Cup last month with 86 not out off 61 balls.
Warwickshire are seen as favourites for his signature as a move to Edgbaston would enable him to remain in the Midlands.
But Sussex hope their double success this summer in winning the Championship and C&G Trophy will persuade him that the south coast is the place to choose for the next phase of his career.
Sussex manager manager Mark Robinson told the Brighton Argus that Maddy was a "quality performer" who would strengthen their squad.
But he added: "I have a budget to work to and we will not get involved in an auction for Darren."
