Charlie Dagnall is one of three players being released by Leicestershire at the end of their current contracts. Fellow paceman David Brignull and young batsman Nick Ferraby are the others allowed to leave.
Dagnall, 29, spent much of his fourth season at Grace Road recovering from surgery on shin problems.
"Tough decisions have to be made when you are trying to balance a tight budget with the task of developing a squad," said coach James Whitaker.
"We appreciate that it has been a difficult time for Charlie.
"We all wish him well in the future, whether he decides to continue in cricket with another county or pursue his ambition to work in the media."
In 2004, Dagnall enjoyed his most productive season, helping Leicestershire win the Twenty20 Cup and claiming 29 first-class wickets.
But he was restricted to one C&G Trophy appearance and three Totesport League games in 2005.
