Chilton earned his county cap with Lancashire in 2002

Lancashire have awarded former captain Mark Chilton a benefit in 2011.

The 34-year-old batsman made his debut for Lancashire in 1997 and he captained the county between 2005 and 2007 when they reached T20 and one-day finals.

Chilton said: "I am obviously thrilled that the club has acknowledged me in this way. It's a great privilege to play for such a fantastic team."

Chilton, who has more than 8,500 first-class runs, was voted the club's player of the year last season.

Lancashire chief executive Jim Cumbes commented: "He is a regular, loyal and uncomplaining player for his county who is prepared to do anything for the good of the team.

"He was captain for a spell when the team was going through a transitional period and earned the respect of everyone, not least his team-mates."
