2009 was Moores' first season in charge at Old Trafford |
Lancashire head coach Peter Moores believes they need more seam bowlers for the 2010 campaign. After losing Jimmy Anderson and Andrew Flintoff to England duty for almost the whole season, Lancashire then got badly hit by injuries in mid-summer. Skipper Glen Chapple, Sajid Mahmood, Steve Cheetham and all-rounder Tom Smith all spent time on the sidelines. "We got exposed a little bit this year because of injuries," Moores told BBC Radio Manchester. "We were unlucky. Cheetham got a long-term injury and then we had injuries to Smith, Mahmood and Chapple together." That forced Lancashire into bringing Tom Lungley in on loan from Derbyshire as short-term cover. But Moores admits that they are now looking for a more long-term solution. "As a club you want to be able to cover," he said, "so I think we've got to look at that area. "You'd be wrong not to look at how you might strengthen a squad but you balance that also by what you've got and how people have developed during the season. "If the right player's available - yes, we would like to add to the squad. You've got to see who's out there. "To bring somebody in, they've got to be the right sort of person for starters and they've got to complement your squad." One piece of business they have done is to offer a contract to left-armer Gary Montgomery. Along with fellow second teamer Luke Proctor, the pair have signed their first professional contracts for the 2010 season.
