Lancashire head groundsman Peter Marron has announced he will be leaving Old Trafford at the end of the year after 30 years service.

But the 53-year-old, who oversaw the installation of a new 600,000 drainage system at the ground, is not ruling out returning in a consultancy role.

"I wouldn't walk away from Lancashire if they ever needed me," Marron told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"I've spent my life here and I'm leaving with happy memories."

And Marron, who was awarded a benefit in 2006 and will become a freelance groundsman, revealed his desire to become involved in local league cricket.

"I always wanted to do something as big as this and always wanted to leave the club in good stead," he said.

"It's been a hard decision and I've talked to family and friends for months, as well as talking to the chief executive Jim Cumbes.

"I've done my bit here and it's time to do something I want to do."
